Scorpion - Christian Cantrell

One third through, and it's just getting ok now.

So far it's been a bit slow

We have a serial killer, Raveer, and we know exactly who that is, because he has his own chapters.  he's been killing people on a list, and in order of age.  And then stamps serial numbers on them, which is revealed to be a PIN for access to a bank of sorts.  Very clever for the sake of being clever

We have a data analyst, Quinn, who, using data science, manages to figure out who the killer is, and organises a meeting with him.

We have another brilliant female, Henrietta, who seems to be there for support for Quinn, and possible comic relief.  I'm still not exactly sure why her character exists.

And we have the boss, Moretti.

At the two thirds mark, we finally have the meeting, with Reveer and Quinn, where it's revealed that the hit list is from the "Epoch identity" which is a code that no one can crack, except for Reveer.  but it turns out it's not from him, but is from the future.  And the person who does crack it (or create it?) is Quinn from the future. And the list is people who will be dangerous terrorists in the future.  Shades of Terminator, except the Terminator in this case is good.  maybe.

and that is actually a stopping point, because

The last third gets weird.  Reveer is in prison, and now it gets all time loopy.  I honestly have no idea, but in the end, I think Henriette turns out to be bad, maybe, and she's trying to kill Quinn.

Quinn and Reveer end up together, as it turns out they try to save the world.  She ends up assassinating someone with his help.

But I honestly have no idea about the big picture in the end.  So confusing.

But the prose was so good that I did read it all. But yeah, nah.  next
